Materials and Farming (Patapon 1)

Everything in Patapon 1 runs on materials. Creating Rarepons, upgrading equipment, and cooking stews all require specific resources. This guide covers where to get each material type and how to farm efficiently.

Kaching Farming

Kaching is your primary currency. You spend it at the Tree of Life to create units and on equipment. Early-game Kaching shortages are common.

Best Kaching Methods

Early Game:

  1. "Search for a Lucky Star" hunting mission (no rain). This is the classic early-game Kaching farm. Run it repeatedly. Each clear drops a reliable amount of Kaching plus bonus materials.
  2. Replay "Patata Plain" hunting missions. Shorter than Lucky Star but consistent. Good for quick runs between other tasks.
  3. Flower trick. On some hunting missions, large flowers appear in the background. Hit them with low-damage ranged attacks (Yumipons work well). Each hit can drop Kaching before the flower breaks. Avoid killing the flower too quickly.

Mid-to-Late Game:

  1. Boss farming. Every boss drops Kaching alongside materials. Combine Kaching farming with material farming by replaying bosses you can beat quickly.
  2. Minigames. Each minigame attempt costs a small Kaching entry fee, but the material rewards can be sold or used to create Rarepons that make boss farming faster. The net gain is positive once you can consistently hit Good or Perfect runs.
tip

Do not spend Kaching on units you do not plan to use in your active army. Every unit creation costs resources. Focus your Kaching on your three main squads.

Boss Stagger Farming

This is the most efficient way to get high-tier materials in the late game. Staggering a boss is not based on a flat percentage of its total health. Every boss has an invisible internal stagger meter. Every hit you land deals stagger damage scaled by the weapon's and Rarepon's Concuss ratio. When the stagger meter hits zero, the boss teeters and drops an item. The meter resets immediately, allowing you to chain staggers continuously.

The Drop System

Bosses have two separate loot tables: a common drop table and a rare drop table. Every successful stagger forces the game to roll a chance to drop an item from either table. Defeating the boss rolls one final drop chance. The percentage chance for Level 4 materials is extremely low at boss Level 1, but scales upward as the boss level increases. Bosses above Level 10 yield significantly higher statistical chances for Level 4 materials.

The Setup

  1. Use low-damage weapons. Equip your army with the weakest weapons you have (wooden weapons, starter gear). You want to deal just enough damage to trigger staggers, not enough to kill.
  2. Use high-Concuss-ratio Rarepons. Dekapons with Mogyuun Rarepons have the highest stagger rate in Patapon 1. Their innate Concuss ratio multiplies every hit's stagger damage. Pair them with Tatepons to tank while they beat the boss.
  3. Bring Yumipons for pickup range. Materials drop on the ground. Yumipons positioned at the back can pick up drops without disrupting your stagger rotation.
  4. Stay in Fever Mode. Fever increases your attack speed, landing more stagger hits per measure.

Best Bosses for Farming

BossWhy Farm ItTarget Materials
GaeenSlow attacks give you long safe windows. Easy to stagger repeatedly.Stone, Wood, Mithril, Super Cedar
DodongaFast fight, low risk. Good for Level 1-2 materials.Meat, Bone, Fang
ZaknelDrops stone and hide variants. Moderate difficulty.Stone, Hide, Hard Stone, Thick Hide
CiokinaOnly consistent source of alloy materials from bosses.Alloy, Fang, Hard Alloy
ShookleDrops hide and bone variants. Higher risk due to poison.Hide, Bone, Legendary Hide

Step-by-Step Stagger Farm

  1. Equip low-damage weapons on all units.
  2. Enter the boss mission.
  3. Build Fever Mode on the approach (March commands until you reach the boss).
  4. Switch to Attack when the boss appears. Your low-damage hits will stagger before they kill.
  5. Defend or Retreat through boss attacks to maintain Fever.
  6. Collect dropped materials between attack phases.
  7. The boss eventually dies from accumulated damage. Collect final drops and repeat.
warning

Do not use Charge into Attack during stagger farming. The damage multiplier can accidentally kill the boss before you have extracted enough staggers. Save Charge for when you are actually trying to clear the boss.

Farming Priorities by Game Stage

Early Game (Missions 1-10)

  • Run hunting missions for Kaching and basic materials.
  • Play Ubo Bon and Rumble Thump for wood and stone.
  • Create Pyokola or Gekolos Rarepons for your Tatepons (fire resistance helps early).

Mid Game (Missions 11-20)

  • Start boss stagger farming Dodonga and Gaeen for Level 2 materials.
  • Play Fwoosh Famooze for alloys to upgrade equipment.
  • Create Tikulee Rarepons for your ranged units.
  • Cook King's Stews before difficult boss fights.

Late Game (Missions 21+)

  • Farm Dogaeen and Cioking for Level 3 and 4 materials.
  • Target Barsala Rarepons for your primary damage dealers.
  • Farm Divine-tier equipment from endgame boss replays.
  • Complete the "Divine Collection" achievement (nine Divine items) through repeated high-star boss clears.
